Since posting back in November that I would be more diligent about making posts, I’ve made one post. Not a good way to start a new resolution. But anyway, here’s Aidan singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Jason Hinkle, my brother-in-law, was involved in a car accident and is in very serious condition in the hospital. We’ve set up the site http://www.prayforjay.org to help Jay and his family through this very difficult time. I’m sure that any support you want to show for Jay and his family would be tremendously helpful during this very difficult time for them.

Yesterday Daylan turned the big “One”- Happy Birthday DAY DAY! It’s been a wild and crazy year. He’s walking and, as Aaron affectionately calls it, hobo babbling. It’s crazy to see how fast he pick things up from his brother. He’s a goofball like his brother and he’s big ole pig – a never ending belly. It’s awesome to watch him figure out more and more things, and I know he understands what we’re saying and he’s starting to mimic us. He’s a late teether like Aidan, even later, since he still has no teeth, though I think he’ll be popping 2 bottom ones any day now. I’m going to try and be more diligent and get back to regular posting here and on our gallery. Which leads me to my next topic.
A year ago, Facebook (and my iPhone) was tremendous in helping get the word out quickly about Daylan’s birth and that got me hooked on it. Because of Facebook, I posted almost all of Daylan’s big moments there instead of here. Most of the pictures of things we’ve done we’ve posted there as well. While that’s a great way to get notices out to a lot of people, it’s not a great way to keep track of all those big moments. I’ve also lost my fascination with watching the day to day grumblings and ramblings of the people on there (I’n am just as guilty). In any case, I’m pretty much ignoring Facebook and making the effort to be more attentive here.

A bad gallery update has caused all of the photos and albums to be erased, so the gallery is down indefinitely. I should have all the photos on my laptop, but getting them back in the gallery in some organized fashion will take quite some time. Big ole’ bummer.

After 16 hours of labor, Daylan James Leggett was born at 1:08am on November 6th, 2008 weighing in at a hefty 10 lbs. 6 oz. Mom and baby are doing well. Pictures to follow soon (there’s one up already on Facebook if you’re on there).

We’re sitting in the delivery room now. We checked in about a 7:45 and we got settled in. Amy’s all hooked up with the pitocin drip and things are looking good. I’ll probably post more frequent updates to Facebook than here so stay checked in there!

Unless something spontaneously happens between now and tomorrow morning, Amy will be induced tomorrow at 7:30am. We had a non-stress test performed today and the baby is healthy and not under stress, so things are looking good. This baby is way too comfortable where he is and it’s time to serve him an eviction notice. Check back tomorrow for more news and (hopefully) pictures and (maybe) a video or two.

Well it’s been a month since we last posted anything here. We’re 6 days passed the due date. Tuesday Amy was 2 cm dilated and 70% effaced so progress is being made. We have another Dr.’s appointment next Tuesday. If she has gone into labor by then we’ll have to schedule a date to induce, which we hope we don’t have to, but after 42 weeks the risk outweighs the reward of the baby staying put. All the baby’s vitals are good, though.
In other news, about 3 weeks ago I got a fresh keg of 312 and hooked up my first keg. When I first hooked it up there were a few leaks and I tightened down the connections and things seemed ok. I poured myself a couple pints checking the connections again that night and everything was ok. I didn’t drink any more for a week so I didn’t check on it again. When my parents got in town I was showing it off to my dad and when I opened the fridge to show the keg I noticed there was some foam around the tap. Upon lifting the keg I found the keg was empty and the beer line was loose. So a full 1/6 barrel (~5.5 gallons) had emptied onto the garage floor over the course of the week. Lesson learned: Check the connections every day for the first week after tapping a keg. At least I got to use my new 312 tap handle a few times.

I wanted to thank everyone for surprising the hell out of me on Saturday. Special thanks go out to Maggie & Bruce, Allison & Travis, and Craig & Tisha for helping get everything ready and perfect for an awesome party. And Amy is the most awesome wife and friend for thinking up the idea, organizing it, and covering it all up so I never knew about it. I really am a lucky man to have such great family and friends who go the extra length to lie to me for a month to make it a huge surprise
Of course it wouldn’t have been a party without everyone who showed up (in spirit for those who couldn’t make it) and helped me drink way too much, so a big thanks go out to all ya’ll. Thanks to everyone for a 30th birthday I’ll always remember!

So I’m in Indianapolis (don’t ask cause you don’t want to hear me tell) and I have 3 observations:
- What evil sorcery do hotels practice that makes your skin dry out instantly? Is it the soap, the water, some sadistic combination of the two?
- Hotels shouldn’t mix the decaf and the real stuff. The decaf packet of coffee should be hidden away next to Gideon’s bible. The last thing I need before 12 hours of meetings is to accidentally make decaf because I’m too groggy to read.
- Conservation doesn’t just apply to the things I directly pay for. Just cause I’m in someone else’s house doesn’t mean I should go crazy and run the water 24/7. I still turn the water off when I don’t need it in the shower or brushing my teeth.
And now to get ready for a fun filled day of meetings, meetings, breakout meetings, and, yes, more meetings.
